Is Your Stack Making You a Target?

It’s 2017, and cyber predators are lurking in all the shadowy recesses of the Internet. The most well meaning individuals can find themselves victims of these criminals looking to make a quick dollar from the hard work of others.

In many instances, silver and gold stackers have fallen prey to theft due to posted images of their collections.

If you’re like most stackers, you enjoy occasionally showing off your impressive collection of beautiful bullion. But, did you know you might inadvertently be sharing a little too much information with your fellow silverbugs?

If you aren’t careful, you might be disclosing the location of your stored treasure. Cell phones and digital cameras can embed your physical location in the digital photograph. “Exif data” is information that can alert others to the location and time of a picture.

Use these easy solutions to ensure you don’t overshare information. If you have an iPhone, you can turn off exif data by doing the following:

  • Tap your settings tile
  • Choose “privacy”
  • Choose “location settings”
  • Choose “camera”
  • Make sure the settings are set to “never”

If you have an Android, you can use the following steps:

  • Swipe right to find the “options” menu
  • Choose “settings”
  • Make sure the “save location” option is turned off

If you have taken photos before making these changes, you can use a photo sharing site like Imgur which strips all exif data upon uploading.

If you’re a dutiful stacker, you are concerned about the security of your future. Don’t fall victim to cyber criminals looking to profit from your hard work.
